The Nikon Small World Competion(Exploring the beauty of Science) is an annual event and
although covers a wide range of topics we only focus on the 'stones'. Founded in in 1974 the
entries are superb, 2013 saw over 2000 entries from over 80 countries.
To quote “Over the last several years, the competition has grown by over 150% and
international submissions have more than doubled”.

Small World is widely regarded as the leading forum for recognizing the art, proficiency
and photographic excellence involved in photomicrography. The submissions are evaluated
on originality, informational content, technical proficiency and visual impact.

Opening the mail one morning we were presented with a copy of the Sussex Mineral & Lapidary Societies 40th anniversary publication.
Browsing through the history of the club it reminded me that joining a club or society is a great way to not only share in the wonder of your interest but also increase your knoweldge and gain access to a whole host of benefits.
The SMLS being very active and having one of the most renown annual shows, regular meeting and adventurous field trips both UK and worldwide.
They accept member from all over, however you maybe lucky to find a more local club where you can participate more regularly.
